Former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) accompanied Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) at a Military Police event in the north of São Paulo, where he was received with discreet demonstrations by the public this Friday morning (2).
Bolsonaro was applauded when he had his presence announced at the Barro Branco Military Police Academy and took pictures with supporters during the officers graduation ceremony. He did not speak and there were not the usual shouts of “myth”, as occurred during his term.
In his speech, Tarcísio thanked Bolsonaro for his presence and declared “eternal gratitude”.
“Our ever-president Jair Bolsonaro, to whom I owe a lot,” said the governor, citing him among the authorities present. “I want to express my eternal gratitude, thank you very much,” he continued.
Bolsonaro has been in São Paulo since this Thursday afternoon (1st) to undergo tests at the Vila Nova Star hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery to clear his intestines in July 2021. He spent the night at Palácio dos Bandeirantes at the invitation of the governor.
“You need to understand the following: former president Jair Bolsonaro is my friend. It is a visit from friends. He has a personal matter to attend to in São Paulo and will be staying here. I am very grateful for all the doors that Bolsonaro has opened For me, I am indeed very grateful”, said the governor on Thursday when asked about the visit.
The former president went to the Morumbi stadium on Thursday night to watch the match between São Paulo and Sport for the Copa do Brasil. Part of the São Paulo fans protested against the presence of the former president and held up a banner. Tarcísio was also present.
At the event at the Military Police Academy, Bolsonaro was accompanied by his son, federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL), the former head of the Special Secretariat for Special Communication Fabio Wajngarten, and his brother Renato Bolsonaro.
At the end of the ceremony, Tarcísio left for lunch with the president of Finland, Sauli Niinistö, at Palácio dos Bandeirantes, without Bolsonaro.
