Bolsonaro calls Musk a defender of democracy in Brazil

Former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) stated, during a broadcast on social media this Sunday night (7), that Brazilian democracy “gained strong defenders abroad”, in reference to businessman Elon Musk, owner of Twitter), which is defying account blocking on the platform ordered by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF). For the former president, the reinforcement comes at a good time.

“Democracy in the country is at serious risk, especially our freedom of expression, with censorship, prisons and other absurdities. We must fight for the return of democratic normality,” he said. “OX is showing off the guts of power after Musk bought it.”

During the so-called “superlive”, to address the right-wing organization in this year’s municipal elections, Bolsonaro showed a video from May 2022 in which he calls Musk the “myth of freedom” in Brazil. “I was a visionary,” he joked.

For the former president, the businessman’s reaction is good news, which could still bear fruit. “The case we are following, of loss of basic freedoms, is nothing new to me, as I have felt it firsthand. Who has the right to take the necessary measures to return to democratic normality and for the popular will to be fully accepted”, he detailed.

PL deputies present informed that they will go in a delegation at the beginning of this week to Brussels, Belgium, to denounce to the European Parliament the escalation of arbitrariness in the country, similar to what they did at the UN headquarters and in front of the United States Congress. They assess that international actions have produced results, like Musk’s reaction.

Bolsonaro sees Lula as incapable of reacting to crises

Jair Bolsonaro criticized the government of his successor, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), for having “incompetent ministers, who no one knows about”. In the economy, he predicted a complicated situation for July or August, an escalation in the worsening of public accounts and growing pressure for tax collection. “We now have a government without the capacity to react,” he summarized.

“What keeps a president in the presidential chair is the economy. (Lula) caught a tailwind from the economy behind, coming from our administration. In infrastructure alone we had contracted a trillion reais for the next 10 years, with emphasis on railways”, he said, remembering that investors are “putting their foot on the brake” after state interventionism.

The former president promised to continue traveling around the country, to help his party and show the achievements of his administration in security, the economy and other areas.

In the “superlive”, Bolsonaro was in the company of his son Eduardo (PL-SP), federal deputy, and Carlos (Republicanos-RJ), councilor of Rio de Janeiro, as well as federal deputy Mário Frias (PL-SP). The former president said that he has received demonstrations of support in various parts of the country, as a result of the results of his administration and even regrets, such as mayors from the Northeast, “who supported the other side”.
