Billionaire Elon Musk, owner of “X”, formerly Twitter, questioned, this Saturday (6), Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), about “so much censorship in Brazil” and reported that he had overturned the blocks on accounts on the platform imposed by the magistrate.

Musk responded to a post by Moraes on January 11th with the question: “why are you demanding so much censorship in Brazil?”

In the publication in which the question was asked, Moraes praised the appointment of Ricardo Lewandowski to the position of Minister of Justice.

Musk also made a post on his profile on the platform in which he threatened to close the X office in Brazil. In the same post, he announced the end of restrictions imposed on profiles on the social network.

“We are removing all restrictions. This judge imposed heavy fines, threatened to arrest our employees and cut off access to X in Brazil. As a result, we will likely lose all revenue in Brazil and will have to close our office there. But principles are more important than profit,” said Musk.

Since purchasing the social network, Musk has adopted a “freedom of expression” speech.

The disclosure of supposed internal documents, which became known as “Twitter Files”, indicate that the content promoted by the network was biased.

The first set of reports was released in late 2022 by journalist Matt Taibbi. He shared internal company emails about the company’s decision to temporarily suppress a New York Post story from 2020. The allegations were never substantiated.

Last Wednesday (3), the subject came to the fore again when North American journalist Michael Shellenberger posted criticism of Moraes in what is being called “Twitter Files Brazil”, composed of prints of emails said to be from an ex -Twitter executive, in which he would have criticized requests for access to platform user data by the Brazilian Judiciary, contradicting Twitter’s own policy.

The Attorney General of the Union (AGU), Jorge Messias, used the platform on Saturday night (6) to take a position on the businessman’s speech.

“It is urgent to regulate social networks. We cannot live in a society in which billionaires domiciled abroad have control of social networks and put themselves in a position to violate the rule of law, failing to comply with court orders and threatening our authorities. Social peace is non-negotiable”, wrote Messias.
