Jair Bolsonaro’s (PL) house on Mambucaba beach, a historic village in Angra dos Reis (RJ), was empty this Monday morning (29) when the Federal Police arrived at the scene to carry out a search and seizure operation against Carlos Bolsonaro (Republicans), Rio de Janeiro councilor and son of the former president.

Bolsonaro and his sons Carlos, Flávio and Eduardo left at 5 am to fish and had not yet returned when the PF knocked on the door of the residence, according to reports from the former president’s interlocutors to the column.

As the column revealed, Carlos and his father were in Angra dos Reis when they received news of the operation. Advisors and lawyers were contacted by them, who sought to find out more information about the searches and seizures.

Carlos would have become a target after cell phones and computers seized in properties in Ramagem would have shown that the councilor was one of the recipients of information that Abin (Brazilian Intelligence Agency) collected about the family’s political opponents, who would be illegally spied on.

On Sunday’s live, Bolsonaro denied the existence of a parallel Abin, said that the investigation is just a “narrative” and called Ramagem a “fantastic guy”.

In addition to the house in Angra, the PF targets the councilor’s office and a residence in Rio de Janeiro. The action was authorized by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), and warrants are also served in Formosa (GO) and Salvador (BA).

According to the PF, this Monday’s measures aim to “advance in the political core, identifying the main recipients and beneficiaries of information produced illegally within the scope of Abin [Agência Brasileira de Inteligência]”.

Reports produced by the agency under Bolsonaro and the use of First Mile spy software are at the center of the PF investigation. Last Thursday (25), the PF launched operation Close Surveillance, an offshoot of the Last Mile, launched in October 2023.

The police are investigating whether the agency used geolocation software and whether it produced reports on STF ministers and politicians opposing the former president.

In the case of Jair Renan, Bolsonaro’s youngest son, Abin would have acted to help him, as he was the target of an investigation by the PF regarding his relationships with companies that maintained and were interested in contracts with the federal government.

Abin agents tried to disrupt the investigation and collect information with the aim of avoiding “risks to Bolsonaro’s image.”

Flávio, in turn, would have benefited from Abin’s efforts to gather information against Federal Revenue auditors.

Bolsonaro’s son at the time was being investigated in the case of the Alerj (Rio de Janeiro Legislative Assembly) “rachadinha” and tried to point out irregularities in the IRS as a way of nullifying the investigation.

After a meeting between Flávio’s lawyers and Bolsonaro, Abin agents reportedly produced reports on how the senator should act to avoid investigations.

In a statement, Flávio Bolsonaro said it was a lie that Abin had acted to favor him. “This is complete nonsense and another attempt to create false narratives to attack the Bolsonaro surname,” he said.

Jair Renan’s lawyer, former minister of the Superior Electoral Court Admar Gonzaga told Sheet that Bolsonaro’s youngest son “has nothing to hide that requires action from anyone, especially illegally.”

In Sunday’s “superlive”, Bolsonaro denied that information from official intelligence services reached him. “I don’t have intelligence from Abin, the PF, the Navy, the Army. Once I went to the Army’s intelligence center, the people did a demonstration [e eu falei:] ‘So, nothing comes to me, it just stays with you here?'”.
