The president of the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), Aloizio Mercadante, informed this Monday (7th) that the institution and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) will release the investment of US$ 900 million, which amounts to almost R$ 4.5 billion for micro, small and medium-sized companies in the Brazilian Amazon. The amount should start to be released from October. The information was given to Power 360.

The agreement was announced at the Amazon Summit, taking place this week in Belém, together with the Minister of Planning, Simone Tebet, and the president of the IDB, Ilan Goldfajn.

The investment needs to be approved by the External Financing Commission (Cofiex), linked to Planning, to guarantee the entry of funds into Brazil. If approved, it is forwarded to the Senate.

In Minister Mercadante’s evaluation, the agreement should not face “difficulty” in being approved in the Senate. “There will be no difficulty due to the meaning, the convergence. I think there is no controversy and disagreement. So, I think that this semester, more towards October, at the most November, we will release it. Let’s do it as soon as possible, ”he said.

According to the minister, the BNDES will use the institution’s guarantee funds to facilitate the release of credit for businessmen. Loans must comply with IDB environmental and social policies.
