The Manaus City Council (CMM) unanimously approved, this Monday (27), Bill No. 375/2022 by the President of the House, councilor Caio André (PSC), which prohibits the installation of capital. The matter went to the sanction of the mayor of Manaus, David Almeida (Avante).

The project was approved in a final vote, after having passed through two commissions in the Legislative House, attesting to the constitutionality of the matter: the Constitution, Justice and Writing Commission (CCJR); and Finance, Economy and Budget Commission (CFEO).

In a press conference at the Carlos Zamith Memorial Hall, Caio André said that the expectation of councilors and the city’s population is that the project be sanctioned as soon as possible by the Manaus City Hall, preventing new devices from being implemented by Amazonas Energia.

“This is the expectation not only of the House, but of the entire population of the city of Manaus. We have seen the population opposing the implementation of these meters and we are living with visual pollution from these wires. This not only pollutes visually, but brings a feeling of insecurity and danger”, said the President of the House.

The parliamentarian returned to defend the constitutionality of the PL and stated that he will talk personally with the mayor, to guarantee the approval of the project.

“I believe that the mayor should also receive numerous complaints due to these meters. It is not a service granted by the City Hall, I want to make it very clear, it is a service governed by Union rules. We are attacking the Code of Postures of our Master Plan and visual pollution, and we understand that this is the way to prevent the company from continuing to face the population”, added councilor Caio André.

The PL of the president of the CMM adds to article 1 of Municipal Law nº 2.208/2017, which prohibits the installation of electrical energy measurement systems, external or centralized, fixed on electricity poles, with the exception of electrical energy passage boxes , transformers and internet and cable TV cabling, as long as a radius of 500 meters is observed between one and the other, to avoid visual pollution.
