‘Best in Sport Award’ honors outstanding athletes from Amapá in 2022 – News of Brazil

Athletes and coaches from different categories were honored at the ‘Best in Sport Award’in 2022. The event was organized by the Municipal Sports and Leisure Coordination (Eat) took place this Saturday night (21), in the auditorium of the Senac. Former athletes of great reference in the state were also honored.

“This is the first time that Macapá rewards the best athletes, para-athletes and federations. This is an incentive for everyone who trains, competes and carries the name of our state. It is a way of recognizing and valuing sport in society, as we know that through it it is possible to save lives and work on building a person’s character”highlighted the mayor of Macapá, doctor Furlan.

The prizes were distributed among 80 athletes from different disciplines. The indications of athletes and coaches to receive the honor were based on criteria developed by their sports entities.

Already the award ‘Gallery Entities’ was made through popular voting through polls carried out on the official instagram of the Municipality of Macapá, in the categories: collective modality, general individual modality, individual combat modality and parasport modality.

“Our obligation is to value and promote all those sportsmen and supporters who obtained expressive results in several categories. It is also a way of expressing gratitude and encouraging new achievements”, said the coordinator of Comel, Bruno Igreja.

The emotion took over Lucas Thiago dos Santos, 19 years old, awarded in the parajiu-jitsu category. “I dedicated myself a lot to get here, I feel proud and immensely grateful for the support of my family and my coach. I hope to achieve all my goals, because this is just the beginning of a dream.”he said smiling.

Who also spared no words to express their happiness was the vice world champion in Istanbul in Turkey, third in the Grand Prix of Manchester in England and currently in 5th place in the world ranking of the Parataekwondo modality, Leylianne Samara Saints.

“I thank everyone who is part of my trajectory. Anyone who is an athlete knows how difficult it is to stay in the rankings. It’s hard work that needs perseverance to get here. I take the opportunity to say that I was called to compete in the continental selection and participate in the Pan American Games in Chile”commented excitedly.

One of the honorees of the night was the former athlete, Jader Souza, Brazilian runner-up in 2022, Olympic athlete Greece-2004, bronze medalist at the World Cup in Moscow, Russia 2004, South American champion Maldonado-Uruguay, among other achievements. “I had the opportunity to participate in incredible moments through sport, and this is a legacy that remains on my part. I congratulate the initiative of this event that values ​​these professionals. This award is dedicated to all amapaenses”declared the former athlete.

The event also honored the athlete, Pedro Lucius de Oliveira Maciel, deceased in May 2022. Pedro was a wrestling and Jiu-jitsu athlete. First amapaense bi champion of Brazilian jiu-jitsu and Brazilian champion of wrestling.
