Felipe Gamba, owner of the hostel located in Ilhabela (SP), was inspired by his more than 60 trips to other countries to open a business. Businessman earns almost 4 million by receiving guests in tree houses, cabins and vans. Inviting prices and greater interaction between guests are some of the characteristics of the so-called hostel, a type of hotel. But in Ilhabela, on the north coast of São Paulo, a development considered “The Best Hostel in the World” has differences that go beyond encouraging good coexistence. Before arriving in the city to become a businessman, Felipe Gamba visited many countries around the world. There were at least 65. “I was really looking for a new meaning in life, after traveling around the world, you end up getting a little sick of normal life”, he explained. While traveling, Felipe saw that many people stayed in hostels, but that in Brazil there was still a certain prejudice against this type of accommodation. It was in Ilhabela that he saw the opportunity to innovate. One of the highlights of the development is the unusual accommodations. There, guests are welcomed in tree houses, Kombis and even “yurts”, which are traditional Central Asian huts. Among other choices, this variety of accommodation not only makes guests come back to experience new environments, but also produces good images for social media. In addition to the traditional shared rooms, there are accommodations for couples in the shape of a sailboat, trailer and even a lighthouse – chosen by Felipe Ramos for his first experience in a hostel. But, to be a successful hostel, you need to invest in one important thing: “Socialization is the key to any hostel. Our main objective is to make people get to know each other, interact, exchange knowledge, culture and new ideals […] In addition to yoga classes every morning and boat and kombi rides. Every night we have parties and events.” In 2023, the enterprise received the “Best Hostel in the World” award, in the “people person” category, which evaluates the sociability of the hostel. In the same year, the businessman had a turnover of R$ 3.8 million. With carnival approaching, Felipe’s places are completely full. “Carnival is always a delight, enjoying a carnival on an island, in Brazil, is always incredible and we have very high expectations, home full, parties every day, a lot of work.” HOSTEL DA VILA ILHA BELA Address: Rua São Benedito, 202, cCentro – Vila Ilhabela/SP – CEP: 11630-000 Reception and service: (12) 3896-2096 Sales Center: (12) 98142-9140 Website: www.hosteldavilailhabela.com.br Instagram: www.instagram.com/hosteldavilailhabela
