A new attraction at one of the most famous skyscrapers in the United States allows tourists to recreate an iconic 20th century photo. Known as ‘Lunch Atop a Skyscraper’, the image depicts 11 workers, without any type of safety equipment, who were having lunch sitting on a steel beam 260 meters high during the construction of 30 Rockefeller Plaza, in New York.

‘The Beam’ is an interactive experience for travelers who enjoy adrenaline and history. When purchasing a ticket, visitors have access to the observation deck on the 69th floor and can sit on a type of beam with a backrest and seat belt.

The beam is elevated 3.6 meters above the observation platform and rotates 180 degrees. The highlights of the view are Central Park and the panorama of Manhattan — a skyline full of buildings. The public can then reproduce the photo published in ‘The New York Herald-Tribune’ on October 2, 1932.

To enter the observation deck, tickets vary between 34 and 40 dollars (166 and 195 reais). ‘The Beam’ experience requires an additional individual ticket, which costs 25 dollars (122 reais). Both can be purchased on the official Rockefeller Center website.
