Athlete from Amazonas is invited to the 1st Phase of Youth Training at the Paralympic Center

Lucas dos Santos is the current gold medalist and Parapan American record holder
The weightlifting athlete, Lucas dos Santos, was invited by the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB) to the 1st Youth Training Phase – Weightlifting 2024, which will be held at the Brazilian Paralympic Training Center (CTPB), located in the city of São Paulo. The Amazonian, who has support from the Government of Amazonas, through the State Sports Grant and is part of the Amazonas Project at the Paris 2024 Olympics, will stay from February 18th to 24th in the capital of São Paulo.
“It is a source of pride that our talents can be recognized. Lucas, as well as Maria de Fátima, are athletes who are putting Amazonian weightlifting in the international spotlight and this will certainly be reflected in not only sporting results, but in a generation that follows and is inspired by these athletes”,
Secretary of State for Sports and Leisure, Jorge Oliveira.
Lucas was called up after technical observations and performance in competitions, with the training period serving as preparation for the competitions that will be played throughout the year. During their stay, the Bolsa Sport athlete will undergo physiotherapeutic, nutritional and physiological monitoring, as well as lectures and guidance from other professionals.
“It’s a mixed feeling, of joy. To tell the truth, it was a surprise to be called up for the Training Phase at the Paralympic Center. This is my last year training among young people, up to 23 years old, it is an important period, good to show that our work is being done well”,
said Lucas dos Santos.
The athlete’s next competition will be the 1st National Phase of the Caixa de Weightlifting Lottery Circuit, which will be held between the 23rd and 24th of March, in São Paulo. On his resume, Lucas won the Brazilian Championship twice in 2022 and 2023, a silver medal at the Parapan-American Championship in Lima 2019 and gold in Santiago 2023, where he also became the current record holder for the competition lifting 150kg.
