The statements made by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), this Thursday (23), that the criminal plan to kidnap Senator Sérgio Moro (União Brasil-PR) could be a “framework”, had repercussions not only in the political environment , with requests for investigation by deputies such as Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG) and Deltan Dallagnol (Podemos-PR).

Society entities also repudiated the speeches that directly affected the Federal Police – and, consequently, Minister Flávio Dino, of Justice, who publicly declared the veracity of the investigations. Also on Thursday (23), judge Gabriela Hardt withdrew the secrecy of some pieces of the investigation after Lula’s statements, which showed how the faction was planning the crime against Moro, his wife, federal deputy Rosângela Moro (União Brasil- SP); prosecutor Lincoln Gakyia, from São Paulo, who was the group’s initial target, among other authorities.

One of them was precisely the one that brings together the corporation’s delegates, the National Association of Federal Police Delegates (ADPF). According to the president of the entity, Luciano Leiro, the investigations were conducted with “caution, responsibility and protection of the law”, accompanied by the Federal Public Ministry and with the “measures determined by the competent court”.

“We fully trust the work carried out by the Federal Delegates who work in the case”, said Luciano, adding that “in sensitive moments like this, it is important to highlight the need for functional autonomy of the institutions and the seriousness of the criminal prosecution process”.

In the same line followed the Association of Federal Judges of Brazil (Ajufe), which reiterated its “most absolute support to all Federal Judges working in the criminal area in the country”. According to the entity, the creation of the Federal Penitentiary System, “whose jurisdiction is exercised by magistrates of the Federal Justice, has proved to be extremely important for the effective fight against organized crime, which insists on challenging the Brazilian democratic institutions”.

“The personal attack on Federal Judges causes social instability and distances itself from the urgent need for conciliation between the Powers. Ajufe reiterates respect for institutions as a condition for the full exercise of democracy, and will continue to defend the independence of the Judiciary and harmony with the other Powers of the Republic”, she pointed out.

For Tânia Fernanda Prado Pereira, president of the National Federation of Federal Police Delegates (Fenadepol), all work done by agents in judicial police activities, administrative functions or internal affairs are subject to external control by various institutions. The PF even, she says, is one of the public bodies with greater control of its actions.

“Since it is a judicial police, core activities, such as the investigation of any citizen, from the simplest to the most complex cases, are naturally subject to criticism and improvement,” he said.

Still according to the president of the Federation, the evolution of the Federal Police, over the years, has given it a capacity “far beyond what could be expected from an institution weakened by not having constitutional guarantees as the Public Ministry has”. “And this is proving to be increasingly necessary, for there to be a provision in the Constitution for the guarantee of the autonomy of the PF, so that there is no doubt about its political exemption”, she added.
