Artist from Parintin competes for national award in virtual exhibition

Dayane Cruz had her work “Banzeiro” selected for the 1st Alley of Artists, Expocon Online 2024

Manaus (AM) – Visual artist from Parintina Dayane Cruz was one of those selected to participate in the exhibition “1º Beco dos Artistas, Expocon Online 2024”, whose theme is “Art and Periphery” and provides for an award through online voting on the event website.

Young Dayane, aged 21, is among 125 artists from all over Brazil who were selected to be part of the online exhibition. Registration took place in December 2023 and brought together works by peripheral artists from all over Brazil. The exhibition runs online for three months – from February 26th to May 26th.

Graduated in Visual Arts from the Federal University of Amazonas, at the Institute of Social Sciences, Education and Animal Science, in Parintins (369 kilometers from Manaus), Dayane said she was happy to occupy this national space as a representative of the North region.

“It is a great happiness to have been selected for the virtual exhibition along with several incredible artists and to be able to represent the North, occupying these spaces”, said the artist.

The work “Banzeiro” deals with relationships of affection. “She talks about relationships of affection, how these relationships are linked to social transformation, how love is in fact a revolutionary act”, defined Dayane. “The exhibition’s theme is ‘Art and Periphery’ and the work selected was ‘Banzeiro’, which is part of a small series of photographic records that I made with pictorial intervention”, she added.

Dayane has been using her family circle and friends to campaign for her work to be voted well in the exhibition. “I am receiving support and support in the vote from friends and my family and also from some cultural collectives that I am part of, such as Movimento Grito da Periferia, Estúdio Buriti Artes e Quadrinhos de Parintins of which I am a member”, he said.

The artist also says she has support in promoting the exhibition and her work from people at Ufam-ICSEZ, where she studies in Parintins. “I am a Visual Arts student and I have also received support from some local journalists from Parintins and the people who follow me on Instagram”, declared Dayane.

Voting

The public, in addition to being able to vote for their favorite work of art to win the prize, will also be able to purchase the works of art directly from the artist, through a link available on the exhibition page, which is organized by PerifaCon, which is called informally from Favela Comic Con and defines itself as “The first nerd convention in the favelas”.

The three works with the most votes among the 125 exhibited will be awarded prizes at the end of the exhibition. First place will receive R$2,500, second place will receive R$1,500 and third place will receive R$1,000.
