Art educator from Pará receives title of Amazonian citizen at Aleam

Beto Sá Gomes has lived in Manaus since 1949 and has made several contributions to the art and culture of Amazonas

Manaus (AM) – Having lived in Manaus for more than 70 years, the art educator and cultural consultant, Beto Sá Gomes, will receive this Sunday (18) the title of Amazonian citizen, granted by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Amazonas (Aleam), on the day that marks his 77th birthday.

The years of work in the cultural world were rewarded with the title of Amazonian citizen. Beto Gomes enthusiastically emphasized his joy in receiving the honor, which is given to people who provide relevant services to the population of the State.

“It is an honor to receive the title of Amazonian citizen, it crowns my professional career throughout my life in Amazonas. Nothing better than recognition from society”,

he stated.

Beto Gomes was born in Fordlândia, in the municipality of Aveiro, Pará. The territory was named in honor of the North American businessman Henry Ford, due to the agro-industrial project for the production of rubber and the objective of turning the place into a working-class district.

“The project lasted from 1926 to 1949, the year I left there. I was born in Fordlândia, but I only spent two years there. Then I came to Manaus and I’m still here today”,

reported.

During his career in the capital of Amazonas, Beto has been working as culture coordinator at the Legislative School of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Amazonas (Aleam) for two decades and has made important contributions to the state’s culture, such as the project “Memórias do Amazonas in Newspaper Clippings”, which brought together news from 1967 to 2024 in the sections culture, politics, including the activities of Aleam parliamentarians and about traditional peoples.

The musical area also had a contribution from Beto, over the years, he helped in the training of around 182 musicians who played in the band Blue Birds, which has been active for 57 years and was created by him. Furthermore, it is part of the Amazonense Academy of Music.
