Antony reinstated at Manchester United after assault allegations

The Brazilian striker Antony will be reinstated to training Manchester United and will be available to coach Erik ten Hag for the English team’s upcoming games.

The player was away from activities for around three weeks after accusations of assault against his ex-girlfriend Gabriela Cavallin gained repercussions. He was also accused by two other women, banker Ingrid Lana and student Rayssa de Freitas, but neither of them took the case to court.

“Since the allegations were first made in June, Antony has cooperated with police inquiries in both Brazil and the UK and continues to do so. As Antony’s employer, Manchester United have decided that he will return to training at Carrington and will be available for selection while police investigations continue,” the club said in an official statement.

“As a club, we condemn acts of violence and abuse. We recognize the importance of protecting everyone involved in this situation and we recognize the impact that these allegations have on survivors of abuse,” the statement added.

According to British newspapers The Times It is The Telegraph, Antony returned to England on Wednesday (27) and presented himself to the Manchester police. He handed over his cell phone to the authorities with the aim of assisting in the investigation of the case. The player had been in Brazil since the beginning of September, when he was called up by Fernando Diniz for the Brazilian team’s first games in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. However, the striker was removed from the list after the new accusations.

Gabriela’s complaint came to light in June, after the influencer filed a police report at the 5th Police Station for the Defense of Women, in São Paulo. At the time, Gabriela Cavallin asked for a protective measure against her ex-boyfriend. According to her statement in the police report, Antony attacked her with kicks, hair pulling and a headbutt. He also allegedly held her arms and threw her on the bed.

Gabriela also took the case to the Manchester police. In the investigation being carried out in England, the influencer exposed images of what would be the last attack committed by the player, which would have left her with an injury to her right hand, with the bones of her fingers exposed. The player denies all accusations.

In June, Antony gave a statement in São Paulo about the case. The player’s defense even mentioned that his relationship with Gabriela was “troubled”. The athlete also exposed intimate conversations with his ex-girlfriend on his social networks. According to the player, he “was being forced to publish the messages” and that there had been an “intimate and consensual” meeting between the two. “This matter with this faker will be resolved in court”, published the attacker.
