Amid the coup plot, Braga Netto asked Bolsonaro supporters not to lose faith – 02/08/2024 – Panel

Candidate for vice president of Jair Bolsonaro (PL), General Walter Braga Netto drew attention in November 2022, after his defeat to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in the second round of the presidential election, for an enigmatic speech to supporters who demanded some action regarding the results of the polls.

On the 18th of that month, the general and former Minister of Defense asked the Bolsonarists who were in the playpen not to lose faith.

“You guys, don’t lose faith. That’s all I can say now,” said Braga Netto. A woman told him that they were in the rain, to which the soldier replied: “I know, ma’am. You have to give it some time, okay?”

Launched this Thursday (8), the new phase of the Federal Police operation investigating an attempted coup d’état to keep Bolsonaro in the Presidency shows that the general’s speech took place in the middle of the main days of planning the attempt to take power .

On November 12, Special Forces soldiers held a meeting in Brasília to discuss the coup plan. Mauro Cid, Bolsonaro’s aide-de-camp, participated in the meeting. A week later, on the 19th, Filipe Martins, Bolsonaro’s advisor, and Amauri Feres, lawyer, participated in a meeting at Palácio da Alvorada to discuss the draft decree that would reverse the election result and arrest authorities.

On December 14, Braga Netto expressed irritation with the Army and Air Force commanders because, in his view, they were resisting the military coup plan.

Messages obtained by the Federal Police that supported arrests and searches this Thursday (8) show that Braga Netto had called the then Army commander, Marco Antônio Freire Gomes, a “shit” for not joining the coup attempt.

In other conversations, the general encourages criticism of the then Air Force commander, Carlos de Almeida Baptista Júnior, whom he refers to as a “traitor to the country”.

Braga Netto was one of the targets of the PF operation this Thursday (8), as well as Bolsonaro, former ministers General Augusto Heleno (GSI), Anderson Torres (Justice) and former Army commander Paulo Sérgio Nogueira, among others.
