Iris Apfel, American fashion icon known for her large round glasses has died, aged 102. The information was released on the artist’s Instagram account.

The self-proclaimed “geriatric star” achieved great fame in her 80s and 90s.

Born in 1921 to a Jewish family in Queens, New York, Iris studied art history. Additionally, as a whimsical interior designer, she helped renovate the White House for nine presidents, from Harry Truman The Bill Clinton.Iris recently signed a collection for H&M, after a series of works with brands such as Citroën, Magnum, Happy Socks and MAC. With 2.9 million followers on Instagram, Iris has been a front-row fixture at Paris fashion shows for more than half a century. His eccentric look earned him a distinction among New York celebrities.

Iris filled two floors of her Park Avenue apartment with works by the great designers of the 20th century, which she accumulated throughout her life.

The Metropolitan Museum of New York organized the first major retrospective of her wardrobe in 2005. In 2014, she was the subject of a documentary directed by Albert Maysles. In 2015, after 67 years together, Iris lost her husband, Carl, in the business. of the textile industry, who died at the age of 100.
