Teatro Amazonas will be the stage for performances by pianist Anette Camargo and Cuban drummer Ignacio Berroa, as well as the show “His Day is Done”, which pays homage to the former president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, this Wednesday and Thursday (26 and 27), starting at 8 pm.

The program is part of the Amazonas Green Jazz Festival, with tickets on sale at the Teatro Amazonas box office or on the website: www.amazonasgreenjazzfestival.com.br.

On Wednesday (26), the program begins at 8 pm, with a show by singer, songwriter and pianist Anette Camargo, in the company of Projeto Tânia Maria, which honors the Brazilian star based in the USA. Winner of the Music Professionals Award in the 2021 and 2023 editions, Anette will lead the opening show. The second part of the night, starting at 9:30 pm, will be played by Ignacio Berroa. One of the most influential names in the jazz scene and a reference in Cuban drumming, Berroa has lived in the USA since 1980 and composed the eternal group Dizzy Gillespie. This is the first time that the drummer and his trio perform in Manaus.

On Thursday (27), Teatro Amazonas will host the premiere of the exciting “His Day is Done”, a show composed by the world-winning American trumpeter, Ed Sarath. The work is based on the poem “Madiba”, by the American writer Maya Angelou and pays tribute to former South African President Nelson Mandela, a symbol of resistance against the racist logic of Apartheid. The performance of the work will also bring together the North American violinist, Regina Carter, as the main soloist, the Amazonas Philharmonic and the Coral do Amazonas, conducted by Otávio Simões.

In addition, there will be the special participation of the Global Jazz Collective, which brings together musicians from South Africa, the USA and Brazil in a single tune.

“Jazz has this power to bring us reflection and critical thinking on topics that are so valuable to humanity. Racism is still a very present agenda, in different forms. ‘His Day is Done’ will be an instrument of awareness, as well as the other shows. It will be two exciting nights, you cannot miss it”,

invites the artistic director of the festival, maestro Rui Carvalho.
