The match takes place at Arena da Amazônia and is worth a place in the Copa do Brasil and Copa Verde in 2025; Tyfão can also guarantee a place in Series D

Manaus (AM) – It’s decision Sunday (25) at the Arena da Amazônia. Amazonas FC and São Raimundo duel, starting at 6pm, in the final of the first round of the 2024 Amazonense Championship. The title is worth a place in the Copa do Brasil and Copa Verde for both teams; In the case of Tufão, the title would also guarantee participation in the 2025 Brazilian Series D Championship, extending Tufão da Colina’s calendar into the next season.

Leader of group A with eight points won in five games, Amazonas FC arrives as favoritism. Representative of Amazonian football in Series B of the Brazilian Championship, the Jaguar from the East Zone has a squad full of good players, such as Sassá, Rafael Tavares and Diego Torres, who made the difference for the Aurinegro club in Series C last year.

In the first round knockout, the team led by Luizinho Vieira beat Operário de Manacapuru, in the quarter-finals, 4-0, at Arena da Amazônia. Next, Nacional was the victim in the semi-finals: a 2-1 victory, also at the Arena, in the game that preceded the challenge for the Copa do Brasil, on Wednesday (21), when Onça beat Independente-AP by 1 to 0 in Macapá (AP).

“A hard-fought game, a difficult trip, but we achieved this important classification. The group is to be congratulated on the entire fight. We continue working towards our goals”, said midfielder Diego Torres, who is projecting the final of the first round of the Amazonense Championship.

“We have one more decision ahead of us and we are focused on imposing our game, always respecting the opponent. Now it’s time to align the best strategy with the committee to make a good match”,

added Diego.

‘Surprise, Typhoon’!

São Raimundo was the big surprise of the first round of Barezão 2024. Tufão da Colina even tried to withdraw, before the championship started, due to lack of resources to assemble the team. However, coach Sérgio Duarte managed to extract the best from a lean squad, but focused on carrying out the coach’s ideas with excellence.

Rei do Norte advanced to the knockout stages of the State Championship in third place in group B, with the same eight points as Amazonas FC. In the quarter-finals, the Albiceleste team eliminated the, until then, favorite Manauara 2-1, in a game that took place at the Carlos Zamith stadium. The Amazon Robot had the advantage of a draw in that match.

In the semifinals, São Raimundo traveled to Rio Preto da Eva (79 kilometers from Manaus) to face RPE Parintins, who had the advantage of home field control. After 0-0 in normal time, the team led by Sérgio Duarte won 3-0 in the penalty shootout, with three saves from goalkeeper Douglas. Facing a rival who is currently in Series B of the Brazilian Championship, coach Sérgio Duarte evaluated the decisive match.

“I think we are facing great teams. This ‘David versus Goliath’ fight has been going on since the beginning. It’s another difficult game, against a difficult team with good players and a good coach”,

explained the commander, who continues to reaffirm his confidence in the team.

“São Raimundo will try to do its part, with a lot of humility and sacrifice, so that we can be the competitive team that we have been since the beginning, that gives itself and leaves everything on the field to achieve the result. We know the difficulties, but we know our potential to play a great game and thus be rewarded with another victory”, concluded coach Sérgio Duarte.
