In light of the dengue epidemic, a financial increase — released through an ordinance from the Ministry of Health — will release resources for all 27 units of the federation. There will be R$312 million for the purchase of medicines and to combat the symptoms of the disease.

The state of Amapá will receive R$ 1,260,315.00 to help health units with the purchase of serum — and other medicines needed in the clinical management of dengue. The amounts will be passed on to the municipalities. Managers must decide which medicines to buy.

According to the Minister of Health, Nísia Trindade, at this moment the priority is to avoid deaths and complications caused by the disease, all of this in parallel with mosquito control.

“At this moment, where there is an emergency situation, our focus has to be on continuing to control the fight against mosquitoes, but we have to pay priority attention to preventing serious cases, or when serious cases occur – and there are many reasons for that – that are treated appropriately. Save lives and prevent deaths”he highlighted.

Vaccine distribution

One of the allies against the disease — the vaccine — has been administered to young people aged 10 to 14 in 16 states, but the Ministry of Health will redefine the dose distribution strategy. According to Minister Nísia Trindade, the measure seeks to make better use of doses following a new ranking established by the Department of the National Immunization Program (DPNI) — with an expansion of states and municipalities.

So far, Amapá has not received doses of the dengue vaccine, according to a decision by the Ministry of Health, which prioritized, in the first delivery, municipalities with high transmission and more than 100 thousand inhabitants — excluding Amapá due to the absence of these characteristics.
