Problems in management

Meeting took place on Tuesday (19), in Brasília, and discussed failures in service provision

Manaus (AM) – The problems of air transport in Amazonas were discussed at a meeting at the Ministry of Ports and Airports, in Brasília, this Tuesday (19). Proposed by deputy Sinésio Campos (PT), the meeting was chaired by the Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa, and was attended by the national secretary of Aviation Juliano Noman, as well as representatives from the Brazilian Airport Infrastructure Company (Infraero).

The meeting should have taken place on Monday (18), but was rescheduled due to problems at Eduardo Gomes International Airport, which did not allow planes to take off from 4 am until noon.

The focus of the discussion was the management of Eduardo Gomes International Airport, managed by the company Vinci Airports. Deputy Sinésio Campos brought to the attention of the ministry several failures in the provision of the service, such as the early closure of the airport, complaints from permission holders who have stores on site, excessive leaks in the lobby and the absence of company representatives at the airport to provide clarifications about the problem.

The parliamentarian suggested the presence of the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) at the airport, in addition to demanding the reactivation of “Eduardinho”, a regional airport attached to Eduardo Gomes that is deactivated.

Minister Silvio Costa stated that the Federal Government included in the new Growth Acceleration Program (PAC) the restructuring and construction of 120 airports in Brazil, and that Amazonas will be the state with the largest number of projects covered, with at least 10 works planned . Regarding the complaints regarding Vinci Airports, Silvio Costa stated that he will contact ANAC to monitor the case, and if necessary, he will notify the company for clarification.

“We had a very productive meeting at the Ministry. In Manaus we have another case in which privatization did not work. ANAC needs to inspect Vinci Airports, so that the population does not suffer inconvenience due to flight cancellations, which frequently occurs”, declared Sinésio Campos.

Flores Aerodrome

Another topic discussed was the issue of the Flores Aerodrome, where the Manaus Aeroclube is located, which began to be managed by Infraero after a decision by the Ministry. The National Secretary of Aviation, Juliano Noman, clarified that the measure was taken because, legally, the Flores Aerodrome was without management, as the Aeroclube did not meet the formal requirements to take control of the Aerodrome.

Minister Silvio Costa committed to starting a dialogue with the governor of Amazonas, Wilson Lima, to find a solution to the impasse.
