The president of Solidariedade, Paulinho da Força, rejected any type of demand from the government regarding the party’s decision to give space to the PL in the Public Security Commission of the Chamber of Deputies.

As the Panel showed, the government charged Solidariedade, PDT and União Brasil for exchanging seats on the collegiate and allowing Jair Bolsonaro’s party to make nominations to compose the commission.

In the exchanges, Solidariedade gave up one of its vacancies to allow the appointment of deputy Eduardo Pazuello (PL-RJ), former minister of Jair Bolsonaro (PL), to the commission. Of the 34 nominated to the collegiate on Wednesday (15), 27 were military or police officers.

“The PT has no credibility to hold our party accountable. It has not fulfilled any of the commitments that President Lula assumed with us when we supported him in the first round and, therefore, is in no position to hold it against us”, says Paulinho da Força. “By the way, there’s no point in charging us. As we don’t consider ourselves in government, we’re going to work in the Chamber the way we think is best for the party.”

Behind the scenes, members of PDT and União Brasil also reject the criticism. They cite government disorganization in the Chamber for not realizing the importance of having a majority in committees of its own interest. They also argue that parties have the right to seek vacancies in collegiate bodies that are aligned with their strategies in the House.
