By 20 votes to 11, the Joint Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPMI) on January 8 approved all the government’s requests and rejected most of those presented by the opposition. In a series of block votes this Tuesday (13), the collegiate privileged the thesis of orchestrating a coup, proposed by rapporteur Eliziane Gama (PSD-MA), to the detriment of the focus on the omissions of federal authorities.

The plenary also decided to maintain in the approved applications the request to include access to documents of investigations into the vaccination card of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), contested by the opposition. By 20 votes to 12, the proposal by Deputy Felipe Barros (PL-PR) to exclude this item for considering it foreign to the CPMI theme was overturned. There were 285 requests on the agenda, 181 of which were for information seeking, including those without consensus.

Then, the collegiate plenary approved in block all the government requests and part of those of the opposition accepted by the presiding board. The opposition had already supported the government’s demands, but they were frustrated when the opposition’s were voted.

Among the names that will be summoned to the CPMI on January 8 are Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, a former employee of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and former Minister of Justice Anderson Torres. The main name that the opposition would like to take to the collegiate, the former head of Lula’s Institutional Security Office (GSI), General Gonçalves Dias, was not summoned. Only one request for information to the GSI on Dias’ presence at the Planalto Palace on January 8 was approved.

The next session of the CPMI will be on June 20th.

Opposition criticized “shielding” to Flávio Dino

In the debates, government supporters criticized Senator Marcos do Val’s (Podemos-ES) request for information about President Lula’s trip to Araraquara (SP) on January 8 and the internal images of the Itamaraty Palace.

Do Val again criticized what he considers the partiality of the CPMI rapporteur, Eliziane Gama (PSD-MA), and a “coordinated effort to shield” Minister Flávio Dino (Justice) from “accusations of leniency with the invasions of public buildings”. In addition to the presence of six parliamentarians from Maranhão who did not support the CPMI request, he sees evidence in this direction as the placing in the background of calling witnesses who, according to him, would prove the omission of the current federal government on January 8

Felipe Barros (PL-PR) and Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG) asked for the exclusion of the request for the breach of secrecy of documents related to the investigations of the vaccination card of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) due to lack of pertinence with the subject of the CPMI, however, were not successful.

Senator Eduardo Girão (Novo-CE) protested at the exclusion of the opposition’s requests to call for the presence of the Reuters agency photographer, Adriano Machado, who was seen in images that suggested participating in a staging. Senator Magno Malta (PL-ES) and Deputy Delegado Ramagem (PL-RJ) also criticized in this regard.
