The Minister of Mines and Energy (MME), Alexandre Silveira (PSD-MG), lost the arm wrestling with the Planalto Palace and will have his executive secretary appointed by the Planalto.

The gavel was beaten by the Civil House this week and the minister should be informed later this Thursday (16) of the name indicated by the Planalto for the position.

Silveira had been fighting for the nomination of Bruno Eustáquio, an employee with more than a decade of experience in the infrastructure area, including energy, oil and gas.

There was resistance, however, because he projected himself during the government of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL). Eustáquio was deputy secretary of the MME and executive secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure in the previous administration.

Silveira’s movements in the search for positions for former members of the Bolsonarist government cause estrangement and discontent among members and allies of the Lula government.

Another point of friction was the nominations for the Board of Petrobras. Silveira’s list has been publicly criticized by unions of company employees, who campaigned for Lula and even indicated a name for the transition group.
