Minister Alexandre de Moraes stated that the coup plotters who participated in the January 8 attacks on the headquarters of the Três Poderes, in Brasília, last year, had the plan to arrest and hang him. The judge is the rapporteur of the investigations into the case at the Federal Supreme Court (STF), and detailed some of the group’s ideas.

In a special interview with the newspaper O Globo, Moraes states that there were at least three plans in relation to him.

“The first predicted that the Special Forces (of the Army) would arrest me on a Sunday and take me to Goiânia. In the second, they would get rid of the body halfway to Goiânia. Then, it wouldn’t exactly be a prison, but a homicide”,

clarifies.

The last, according to the magistrate, involved his hanging in a public square. “And the third, one of the more exalted ones, argued that, after the coup, I should be arrested and hanged in Praça dos Três Poderes. To feel the level of aggression and hatred of these people, who do not know how to differentiate between an individual and an institution”, he reinforces.

According to the judge, there was an attempt to plan how these actions would occur, and there is an investigation with the participation of the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin), which monitored the steps of these suspects, in case of need to make an arrest.

“Apart from one exaggeration or another, it was something I already expected. I couldn’t expect criminal scammers to not have intended something along those lines. I remained calm. I have too much process to waste time on this”,

highlights.

Regarding the coup attempt, Moraes highlights that it is possible to reach the organizers, and that in less than a year, more than 30 people were convicted for the acts of January 8th. Moraes also defended the regulation of social networks, and pointed out that there was a big movement on the web at the time.

“They [as redes] they failed and were instrumentalized on January 8th. Anti-democratic hate speech proliferated, allowing people to organize for the ‘Selma party, which was the name used (for January 8th)”, he pointed out.

Moraes also stated that his security has remained the same since he took over the São Paulo Public Security Secretariat in 2014, but that of his family has increased.

“I was already receiving threats from organized crime. The scheme has been the same for almost nine years. These scammers are extremely brave virtually and very cowardly in person. Then, many threats arrive, especially against my daughters, because even in this regard they are misogynists. They prefer to threaten girls and always with messages of a sexual nature. They are a sick people”,

declared.
