Businessmen from the airline sector met this Friday (20) with the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, to present demands from the sector that increase the price of airline tickets. The meeting took place after the government placed the increase in fuel costs, including aviation kerosene, on the list of measures aimed at restoring government revenues.
According to the president of the Brazilian Association of Airlines (Abear), Eduardo Sanovicz, the price of kerosene impacts 40% of the value of the air ticket. In the United States and Europe, this proportion is 22% and 24%, respectively.
With the increase in costs resulting from the jump in aviation kerosene and the dollar, Sanovicz explained that there was an inflection in the cycle opened in 2002 of greater access by Brazilians to air flights. The executive recalled that in the first decade of tariff freedom, the average ticket dropped by half, while the number of passengers rose from 30 million to 100 million.
“We came to tell the minister that, resuming the cost and operating conditions we already had, Brazilian aviation is capable of delivering a very expressive number of passengers. If we tripled in a decade, we understand that it is possible to double in another decade”, he added. the president of Abear in conversation with journalists at the end of the meeting.
The airline sector must participate in bimonthly meetings with the government to articulate a price reduction in tickets. In addition to Sanovicz, the presidents of Gol, Celso Guimarães Ferrer Junior, and of Azul, John Rodgerson, participated in the meeting with the minister, as well as the financial director of Latam, Felipe Pumarino.
