As determined by Wilson Lima, Pauderney meets with Alckmin to discuss ZFM

Brasilia DF) – Pauderney Avelino, confirmed to head the Secretariat for Economic Development, Science, Technology and Innovation (Sedecti), went to Brasília, this Friday (20th), and met with the Vice President of the Republic and Minister of Development, Industry, Comércio e Serviços, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), to discuss the future of the Manaus Free Trade Zone (ZFM) in the current economic scenario. The vice president stated that the Federal Government does not intend to adopt measures that harm sectors of the national economy.

Governor Wilson Lima highlighted that it is through the IPI exemption practiced in the ZFM that more than 100,000 direct jobs are maintained in the industries installed in the capital of Amazonas, and the protection of the Manaus Free Trade Zone is on the constant priority agenda of the Government of Amazonas .

Wilson defends that the economic model, foreseen in the Brazilian Constitution, preserves the Amazon forest, while economically developing the region.

“The Free Zone is necessary for regional development and one of the most effective models of economic and social development and forest protection. We need to guarantee competitiveness and, above all, maintain the jobs that are generated in the Industrial Pole of Manaus (PIM). We are talking about more than 600 high-tech industries, which generate more than 100,000 direct jobs. And more than half a million jobs, direct and indirect, mainly in the electronics, computer goods and two-wheelers segments”.

At the meeting, held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC), issues such as the end of the Tax on Industrialized Products (IPI) in the Industrial Pole of Manaus with the implementation of the Tax Reform were discussed. After the meeting, Pauderney stated that there is nothing defined about the issue, and that the articulations on the future of the Free Zone of Manaus, with regard to Tax Reform, will be built together with the Federal Government.

“Obviously, Vice President Alckmin knows that, in order to carry out a tax reform in the country, he needs to be convinced and seek to solve obstacles, whether these are business, sectoral or in segments of the economy. We need to reindustrialize Brazil, which is being deindustrialized”,

said the Sedecti secretary, who will also discuss the matter with the heads of the Ministry of Finance and Federal Revenue, Fernando Haddad and Robinson Barreirinhas.

The Vice President of the Republic and Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, Geraldo Alckmin, highlighted the importance of the Industrial Pole of Manaus and the joy of being able to count on Pauderney in the articulations on the industrial sector of Amazonas.

“We talked a lot about job creation, development and the Amazonian industry, which is extremely important, with more than 100,000 direct jobs and an industry that only adds value to our country. As for the Tax Reform, it has the objective of simplification and must be neutral, without harming sectors”,

Alckmin said.
