This Tuesday (16), the Attorney General’s Office (AGU) filed a lawsuit in the Federal Court of Rio de Janeiro demanding the payment of R$ 3.5 million from the eight Army soldiers convicted in the Military Court for two deaths during the Law and Order Guarantee action (GLO), in 2019.

In the action, musician Evaldo Rosa dos Santos and recyclable collector Luciano Macedo were killed.

In the action, the AGU charges the military for the amount of compensation paid by the federal government to the families of the deceased. In September last year, the AGU signed an agreement with the victims’ families to transfer the amounts due to the damage caused by the military.

The agreement provides for the payment of R$2 million to the musician’s wife, father, and brothers, in addition to monthly pension payments to Evaldo’s wife and son.

The family of the recyclable collector was compensated in the amount of R$841 thousand.

Now, to recover the amounts paid to the victims’ relatives, the AGU argues that the military acted recklessly by shooting hundreds of times with a firearm at innocent people.

According to the accusation, the military shot at the car where Evaldo was traveling while searching for the perpetrators of a robbery. The musician’s father-in-law was injured in the action. The recyclable collector, Luciano Macedo, was shot when he tried to help the musician. Luciano died 11 days later in hospital.

The vehicle was hit by 257 shots, 62 of which hit Evaldo.
