After renewing with Real, Ancelotti breaks silence on CBF invitation – News of Brazil

Four days after renewing his contract with Real Madrid (Spain), Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti spoke for the first time, this Tuesday (2), about the invitation he received to lead the Brazilian team. In March 2023, the coach’s name was mentioned by the then president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues, removed from his position in early December, as his favorite to take on the role. During Fernando Diniz’s presentation as interim coach of the national team in July, the former manager stated in an interview with Reuters that Ancelotti would “definitely” be in charge of the Canarian team. However, in recent months, Ancelotti has consistently dodged questions on the subject of “selection”.

“The reality is what everyone knows and Real Madrid knows too, that I had contact with the president [da CBF] in that period, who was Ednaldo Rodrigues. I want to thank him for his affection and interest in me coaching the Brazilian team, this made me very proud and honored. It happened that Ednaldo is no longer president of the confederation. In the end, things went the way I wanted, which was to stay here.”revealed Ancelotti, during a press conference.

The Italian coach’s contract with Real was due to expire in July, but the Spanish club anticipated and extended the contract with Ancelotti until July 2026. The renewal frustrated expectations of the Brazilian team being led by a foreign coach for the first time in history.

“I can think of [treinar] a national team. Being a national team coach is a big dream, but I don’t know if Brazil will want me in 2026. I don’t know if they are happy with my decision”, said the coach, who has led Real since 2021, in his second spell at the club (the first was from 2013 to 2015).

The 64-year-old Italian coach’s professional history includes titles in Europe’s main leagues (Spain, France, England, Germany and Italy). With Real, Ancelotti won the Spanish league (La Liga), the European Champions League and two FIFA Club World Cups. Ancelotti also mentioned his plans for the future after completing his cycle as coach of the Spanish team.
