After Lira’s intervention, PV will have BB’s vice-presidency – 02/01/2023 – Panel

The mayor, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), had to intervene to resolve an impasse between the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and the PV, a party federated with the PT.

Candidate for re-election, Lira was afraid that the internal split would interfere in agreements signed by him and disturb the election of Jhonatan de Jesus (Republicanos-RR) to the TCU (Tribunal de Contas da União).

The PV had been complaining of being passed over for second-tier positions in the government, after being left out of the ministries.

Faced with the impasse, deputy Aliel Machado (PV-PR) threatened to launch a candidacy for the second secretary of the Chamber, a position promised to Maria do Rosário (PT-RS).

Lira’s fear was that, if Rosário was not elected, the PT would not deliver the necessary votes for the tighter TCU race. Allies of Jesus have between 250 and 280 votes, enough for victory, but not much margin.

After a series of meetings this Tuesday afternoon (31), it was agreed that the PV will appoint the vice-president of Agribusiness at Banco do Brasil. The caption seeks a technical staff for the post.

He may also indicate a position on the board of the Post Office and on the FNDE (National Fund for the Development of Education).

The agreement also goes through spaces in the Chamber. The PT offered the PV to choose a deputy for a thematic commission.
