He began his public career in 1966, as an advisor to Antônio Delfim Neto, then Secretary of Finance for the State of São Paulo. The following year, Delfim became Minister of Finance and Pastore became a minister. Between 1983 and 1985, he presided over the Central Bank, during the government of former military president João Figueiredo, the last representative of the Brazilian Military Dictatorship. Born on June 19, 1939 in the city of São Paulo, he was the son of Francisco Pastore and Aparecida Pastore. He was married to fellow economist Maria Cristina Pinotti.
