In a meeting this Tuesday (18th) with deputy Carlos Zarattini (PT), Air Force Commander Marcelo Kanitz Damasceno proposed the discussion of a solution so that the use of the Aeronautical Fund, composed of the payment of fees collected by airlines and passengers , no longer be constrained as it has been in recent years by the spending ceiling.
Established in 1945 with the objective of ensuring the “equipment of the Brazilian Air Force”, the Aeronautical Fund had a balance of BRL 8.2 billion at the end of 2021. Together, the Naval, Aeronautical and Army funds had BRL 12.6 billion at the end of 2021, showed a report by Sheet.
“This Air Force fund is fed by fees that all airlines pay to use the radar system, flight control. This payment goes to the fund, but its use is limited by the spending ceiling. The Air Force cannot use the resource to improve the system, is there contingency. The same happens with Navy and Army”, says Zarattini to the Panel.
He, who is deputy leader of the PT and a member of the Joint Budget Commission, says he will propose a debate on a solution to the problem.
“These are private resources, fees that remunerate services, which cannot be used to improve these services”, he adds.
