Court ordered the state to pay R$80,000 for moral damages

The Rio de Janeiro Court ordered the state to compensate actress Cacau Protásio with R$80,000 for moral damages resulting from racist attacks committed by soldiers from the Fire Department. The incident occurred after the filming of the film Together and Tangled in the courtyard of the barracks in Praça da República, in the center of the capital, in 2019.

“The author narrates the recording of a clandestine video by one of the public agents and its dissemination on social media. She points out that she was the target of prejudice, fatphobia and racism, according to publications and audios shared on messaging applications”, says an excerpt from the action, adding that the actress argues that the illicit acts were carried out by military firefighters.

Also according to the action, the actress pointed out that she received several audios through the Whatsapp application referring to the video filmed clandestinely, by an agent, within the Battalion, with her and dancers, which contained hate speech.

The action also shows that the audios were shared en masse and the case was widely publicized on the internet and other media outlets, which caused “unhappiness and embarrassment” to the actress.

The report contacted the actress’s advisors and the Fire Department and is awaiting a response.
