Shakira is honored with a 6.5 meter statue in Colombia Reproduction/Instagram Shakira received a statue in her honor in Colombia. The 6.5 meter sculpture was inaugurated in the city of Barranquilla, where the singer was born. Made of bronze with some aluminum fragments, the monument shows Shakira doing one of her famous dance moves, in which she shakes her hips and places her hands clasped above her head. “A heart that composes, hips that don’t lie, an unparalleled talent, a voice that moves crowds and bare feet that march for the good of youth and humanity”, quotes the inscription on the base of the sculpture. The event to present the sculpture created by Yino Márquez to the public was attended by Shakira’s parents, William Mebarak and Nidia Ripoll. According to AFP, the local government had been publishing images of the statue and its creation process since August, but the face had not been revealed until now. The monument was installed on the promenade near the Magdalena River. “I thank the sculptor Yino Márquez and the students at the district arts school for this demonstration of the enormous artistic talent of the people of my land”, thanked Shakira, through messages on social media. The singer, who said she was still moved by the tribute, also shared photos of her parents in front of the sculpture on social media. Initial plugin text Initial plugin text
