Law creating the Pé de Meia program will be sanctioned today
The Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, announced this Tuesday (16) that students in the 3rd year of high school will receive a financial incentive to participate in the National High School Exam (Enem). The information was released during a press conference to announce the Enem 2023 results. The ministry also released the individual results of the participants.
According to the minister, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva sanctions this Tuesday the law that establishes the Pé-de-Meia program. The initiative provides a type of savings grant for low-income students to complete high school. “I can say here that there will also be an incentive for young people who take the Enem.”
“It will be a way to encourage young people in regular high school who will receive this financial aid in the 3 years of high school, but, in the last year, in the 3rd year, they will receive a percentage, an amount to take the Enem test. ”,
explained.
“We need to convince and show that, first, there is no cost to the young person. Afterwards, which is the opportunity he has to access higher education. There is no reason for young people not to take the Enem,” he said.
Data from the folder show that around half of the students who were completing high school in 2023 participated in the latest edition of Enem. Another aggravating factor, according to Santana, is that, among those who signed up, many did not take the test. Of the 1.4 million high school graduates who signed up for the exam, only 1 million actually participated.
“We need to identify the reasons in each network, in each state. And dialogue with the networks to identify the reasons for this”,
he said.
