The government of São Paulo confirmed, on Wednesday night (22), the dispatch of over 300 military police to the region of São Sebastião and other areas affected by the weekend’s rains to reinforce the search for the missing and security after reports of looting. to residences and businesses, according to Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans).

Since last Sunday (19), some residents and traders have been refusing to leave their properties for fear of theft, which has made removal work and assistance difficult, especially in risk areas. This led the State Attorney General’s Office and São Sebastião City Hall to go to court to ask for the forced removal of families living in risk areas in the region.

With this new force, policing in the region already has 462 military police officers, including security, search and rescue actions. The latest government bulletin, updated this Wednesday night (22) points to 48 deaths and more than 3,500 displaced or homeless.
