Argemiro Cândido will be the only representative from the North region at the South American Championship in Cochabamba

Amazonian athlete Argemiro Cândido, 13 years old, was called up to the Brazilian Table Tennis Team for the South American Championship in Cochabamba, Bolivia. The Amazonian, who receives support from the Government of Amazonas, through the State Sports Grant, will be part of the men’s under-13 team that will compete for a place in the Pan-American Championship in the category, being the only representative from the North region of the country.

“Continuous support for athletes like Argemiro is essential for the development of sport in our state. Initiatives such as the Bolsa Sport of the Government of Amazonas are essential to ensure that talents can be discovered, developed and motivated, allowing them to reach the world stage with the necessary support”, said the Secretary of State for Sports and Leisure (Sedel), Jorge Oliveira.

In 2024, Argemiro Cândido won 6 stages of the State TMB and, in 2023, reached third place in the World Table Tennis (WTT) Rosário Stage, in Argentina. Results that added points in the international ranking, qualifying him to be called up by the Brazilian Table Tennis Confederation (CBTM).

“This call-up shows that I am evolving and growing within the sport. I thank the Government of Amazonas for the encouragement to represent my state in the championships, bringing several titles to the North region”, declared Argemiro Cândido.

The South American Championship will be played at the Coliseo Polifuncional Evo Morales Ayma, in the city of Cochabamba, Bolivia. The tournament will take place between May 20th and 25th, and will serve as a qualifier for the Pan-American Championship of the sport. In the under-13 team, Argemiro will be joined by athletes Leandro Ferreira, Vitor Thiofilo and Flávio Coelho.
