In the month of October, the Milton de Souza Correa Stadiumbetter known as ‘Zero’, celebrates 33 years of existence, but also full of great stories, emotions and achievements, in addition to being the only one to be divided in half by the Equator, in which each side of the field represents a hemisphere (north and south).
Founded in 1990, ‘Zerão’ had two names during its existence. The first was given in 1994, due to the death of one of the great Brazilian names in Formula 1, Ayrton Senna, during the San Marino Grand Prix. Months later, through a state law, the name of the stadium became Milton de Souza Corrêa, who died in the same year, on August 18th.
The first goal scored at the stadium was by striker Miranda, in the game Independente (1) X Trem (0), valid for the Amazon Cup. On the same day, the Brazilian Masters Team also played in the preliminary against an Amapá team, with the presence of Zico and other athletes of his generation.
In 2014, the Stadium was renovated and reopened, with the landmark victory of the Amapá team over the Carioca team, in a match that marked the reopening of the venue and was attended by well-known names who played for major Brazilian football clubs.
Some of the big Brazilian clubs that have played on the stadium’s lawn were: Cruzeiro (MG), São Paulo (SP), Flamengo (RJ), Clube do Remo (PA), Paysandu (PA), Sport Recife (PE), Nacional Correia (AM), América (MG), Vila Goiás (GO), Sampaio Correia (MA), Ríver (PI) and Tuna Luso (PA).
Currently, the Milton de Souza Correa Stadium hosts games in the Amapaense Football Championship (professional and grassroots), Copa Verde and Brazilian Série D. Its capacity is for more than 5 thousand people. Now, the place has an athletics track and hosts several athletics events, in addition to being the stage for great victories for the men’s and women’s teams from Amapá.
This Tuesday (31st) the former players of the Amazon Cup, formed by the Macapá Sport Clube, Trem and Independente teams, from the 60s and 70s, will be honored and will play a match. The Government of Amapá through the State Department of Sports and Leisure (Sedel) will deliver certificates and commemorative shirts for the festive match.
