Zema’s allies cite stores in Bahia to counter anti-Northeastern people – 08/12/2023 – Panel

Allies of the governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema (Novo), want to undo the accusation of being anti-Northeastern that was launched against him after his interview with the newspaper “O Estado de S. Paulo”, in which he defended that the states of the South and Southeast sustain in joint their interests in the discussion of tax reform.

One of the arguments is business: the Zema Group, which sells furniture and appliances, which is present in several states, has a large operation in the Northeast. More specifically in Bahia, where there are 32 stores, with 303 employees.

Before winning the election, in 2018, the governor was active in the conglomerate, now run by his family.

Another highlight is the high volume of investments under his management in the Jequitinhonha Valley, in the north of the state, which has socioeconomic characteristics similar to those of the Northeast.

Zema’s strategists also claim that the governor needs to focus more on administering his state in the coming months and become less involved in national issues. The assessment is that entering the electoral debate too early will only harm your aspirations for the 2026 election.
