Minister Márcio França, of Ports and Airports, says that the appointment of lawyer Cristiano Zanin to the position of Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) would be a “true truism”. This statement was made in an interview with the newspaper O Globo published this Monday (27) when asked about the articulations that the government has been making with Congress to get approval of measures of interest to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

“Zanin would be the truism of truisms. A person who was loyal, faithful and competent. Even Zanin’s competitors agree. He was the one who most accredited himself”, said França. Cristiano Zanin is the president’s lawyer.

França also stated that the government has a base in the Chamber of Deputies to pass projects of interest, but in a different format than it used to be. For him, the president of the house, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), is “abiding by his word, he will help us a lot”.

The minister says that he also does not see “much resistance in the Senate” and that it is difficult “to imagine him without winning an episode in Congress”. The government entered the field last week to resolve the crisis involving Lira and Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG) by the format of processing provisional measures in the Legislative Branch.

The crisis, which has been going on for weeks, took on a greater proportion last Thursday (23), when Lira shot that the Senate acts with “truculence” by unilaterally resuming the format of analysis of projects through joint committees. Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Chamber has had the role of opening discussions and appointing the rapporteur.
