Zanin has lunch with evangelicals, and Malafaia calls him a ‘family guy’ – 06/07/2023 – Politics

Cristiano Zanin included an evangelical stop on the pilgrimage in search of support for his nomination to the STF (Federal Supreme Court), made a week ago by one of his main clients, President Lula (PT).
Zanin made a good impression at lunch, served this Tuesday (6), with three congressmen who have good dialogue with parliamentary peers of that faith: Senator Carlos Viana and deputies Sóstenes Cavalcante and Renata Abreu.
Renata Abreu is president of Podemos, the same party as Viana and the acronym that welcomes Deltan Dallagnol, a former Lava Jato prosecutor who had his impeachment confirmed by the Chamber on the same day — a notorious opponent of the appointment of Lula’s defender.
Viana presides over the evangelical bench of the Senate, since Sóstenes, from the PL of Jair Bolsonaro, has already occupied the Chamber, in the 2022 election.
The meeting took place in Brasília, at the home of a lawyer friend of Abreu, who is Anglican. Neither she nor Sóstenes will vote in the sabbath that Zanin will have to go through, since it only involves senators, but the duo was called in to help resolve any resistance to the lawyer in the segment.
There aren’t that many. He is described by Sosthenes as a family man predisposed to dialogue. In the most critical agenda for this Christian bloc, that of customs, he would have signaled that the issue is primarily the responsibility of the Legislature, and not the Judiciary.
“Zanin has been married to the same woman his entire life, has three children, [disse:] ‘I’m Catholic, I understand the struggle of evangelicals, I think that many of the judicialized conservative issues are inherent to legislative activity, I understand the separation of powers and I want to demonstrate that I will respect all segments.”
The lawyer stated, according to the congressman, that he will not close himself off from dialogue with anyone because he is a candidate for Lula. He would also be interested in identifying evangelical senators who oppose his name, in order to open a channel with them.
While the guests were enjoying ribs, pasta and filet mignon, potentially indigestible topics were dealt with sideways. Like Zanin’s stance on sensitive issues in churches, from abortion to drugs.
Sóstenes says that no one was poking around these questions, which would certainly be addressed in the meeting, and returned to Zanin’s answer about understanding that one Power should not invade the other’s area. That is, Congress has to whistle on this, not the STF.
Behind the scenes, Zanin has demonstrated that he is personally opposed to abortion, although this was not specifically discussed at lunch.
A Sheet spoke with three evangelical leaders who, in 2022, side by side with Bolsonaro, took the campaign against Lula to the pulpit. None of them oppose Zanin.
Apostle César Augusto, from the Fonte da Vida church, defines him as “a balanced person, who really has unquestionable legal knowledge, someone who will contribute”. “
“First of all, he’s a family guy, as far as I know,” says Malafaia, from the Vitória em Cristo Assembly of God. The biggest evangelical bazooka against Lula, the pastor says not to confuse things with things: “A lawyer is a lawyer. A militant lawyer is one thing, and [Zanin] he is not a militant PT lawyer, he is a lawyer hired by Lula”.
If he believed that Zanin was wearing the PT shirt, he would have attacked him in the same way he did with Edson Fachin, nominated by Dilma Rousseff (PT) in 2015. At the time, an old video leaked in which the current STF minister asks for votes for Dilma win the Presidency. “I brought the wood down on top, I set it to break.”
“And as far as I know”, continued Malafaia, “Zanin says that abortion is not a matter for the STF, but for Congress”.
The report contacted Zanin via the press office to see if he wanted to talk about the meeting. Did not want to. He has been silent since Lula’s nomination.
