Zanin authorizes ex-minister Gonçalves Dias to remain silent at the CPMI on January 8

The Minister of the Federal Supreme Court Cristiano Zanin authorized this Wednesday (30) that General Gonçalves Dias, former Minister of the Institutional Security Office (GSI), may remain silent during his testimony at the CPMI on January 8. The hearing is scheduled for this Thursday (31).

The minister pointed out that Dias may remain silent only on questions that may incriminate him. “I understand that the patient has the right not to respond to questions that may possibly incriminate him. He cannot be compelled to provide evidence against himself, ”wrote Zanin.

In the decision, the magistrate pointed out that the general “is not exempt from answering objective inquiries that are unrelated to this content, since, as for other formulations not included in constitutional protection, everyone has the obligation of not failing with the truth” .

Dias will have the right to be accompanied by a lawyer; not being subjected to the commitment to tell the truth; and not suffer physical or moral constraints, informed the portal g1. Gonçalves Dias was exonerated from his position after the release of videos from security cameras, which showed the former minister inside the Planalto Palace during the invasion and depredation of the Executive headquarters on January 8.
