Manaus (AM) – Upon assuming, this Friday (17), the position of acting mayor of Manaus, the vice-president of the City Council of Manaus (CMM), Yomara Lins (PRTB), becomes the first woman to command the Executive Branch of capital.

With the absence of the mayor of Manaus, David Almeida (Avante), vice-president Marcos Rotta (PP) and the president of the CMM, the vice-president of the municipal Legislative House assumes the post.

“I am guaranteeing the presence of women in political public life, a duty and a commitment that I assume today with the entire population of Manaus. Logically, I will not be able to visit all the secretariats, but I will be supervising many works among other city hall plans already on this first day, so I want to give priority to some demands of our mayor David Almeida, most in need of support at the moment”, assured the councilwoman.

Yomara Lins is in her first term as councilor, is a lawyer graduated from the Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM), pastor and one of the founders of the Comunidade Evangélica Internacional do Avivamento.

During the first two years of her mandate, the councilwoman presented 318 Requests, 26 Law Projects and 51 Indications. Among the most important Bills is PL nº 346/2021, which provides for the mandatory posting in the municipality of Manaus of the disclosure of dial 180 in public access establishments, a number that denounces violence against women.

Start of works

The legislative work of the Manaus City Council (CMM) started on Monday (06/02), The event was marked with the reading of the annual message and goal plans for the biennium 2023/2024.

According to the vice president, Yomara Lins, a new page is open for all municipal parliamentarians to write stories that benefit the population. “From now on, each one will have a new year to show works that improve people’s lives. As I had already said, I have been planning since my parliamentary recess, in order to be able to bring the best to the population”, she pointed out.

In the coming months, the parliamentarian will present new laws, debates on matters of interest to the people, requests for requests, inspect the public power and everything that meets the needs of Manaus.

Yomara also explains that she responds to a transparent legislature, to better serve the population, as second vice-president of the Commission for the Defense and Protection of Women’s Rights.

She will also act in complaints to the competent authorities in cases of female violence. In addition, she will accompany municipal programs in defense of the execution of the rights of Amazonian women.
