World Cup: what to see on the fourth day of the World Cup – 07/22/2023 – Sport

After a third day in which the favorite teams confirmed their superiority over debuting teams, the fourth day of the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, this Sunday (23), marks the beginning of Brazil’s group.

France, who eliminated the Brazilians in the round of 16 of the last tournament, in 2019, faces Jamaica in Sydney, Australia, and is a favorite in the match starting at 7 am, Brasília time. The two teams are part of group F, along with Brazil and Panama, which will face each other on Monday (24th), at 8 am.

Before Brazil’s group, at dawn, Sweden faces South Africa, at 2:00 am, the first match of group G, which still has Argentina and Italy. At 4:30 am, it is the turn of Holland x Portugal, a game that ends the first round of group E, between the United States and Vietnam.

2am — Sweden v South Africa

Currently placed third in the Fifa ranking, Sweden is one of the national teams that participated in the nine editions of the World Cup and is the favorite in the match against South Africa. Although they are not debutants in the tournament, this is only the second participation of the South Africans, who lost all three games played in the last edition, in 2019.

Considered a power in women’s football, Sweden, however, has only one achievement on its curriculum: the first Euro Cup in the category, in 1984. The top scorer in that tournament was the current Brazilian coach, Pia Sundhage, with four goals. From then on, the team had good results despite the lack of titles, such as Olympic silver medals and runner-up in the 2003 World Cup and in the 1987, 1995 and 2001 Euros.

Second placed in the 2019 edition of the World Cup, the Netherlands starts its path in the tournament facing the selection of Portugal, debuting in World Cups.

In retrospect, the Dutch team is not among the European teams that dominated the continent, but it comes in a growing trend: it was second in the last World Cup, in 2019, defeated in the final to the United States, and was European champion in 2017.

The match ends the first round of group E, which has the United States ahead after a 3-0 victory over Vietnam.

7am — France v Jamaica

Jamaica will face the strong team of France in its second participation in World Cups. Like the South Africans, the Jamaicans are in their second edition of the World Cup, also with three defeats in the first of them, in 2019.

The French team, in turn, although without titles and less traditional than the Swedish team, has players from great teams on the planet, such as Lyon, multiple European champions. Among them are defender and captain Wendie Renard and striker Eugénie Le Sommer, the best scorer in the history of the national team, with 88 goals.

The French will not have Delphine Cascarino, chosen by Fifa as one of the best players in the world in the 2019-2020 season and multi-time European champion for Lyon, France, cut from the World Cup due to a knee injury.
