The current 400 meters hurdles world champion, Alison dos Santos, suffered a meniscus injury in her right knee while training in São Paulo. According to the publication of the profile of the Olympic Committee of Brazil (COB) on Twitter, this Wednesday (8), the 22-year-old athlete will have to undergo surgery. There is still no date for the procedure, nor prediction of return to the slopes.
In a note, Sport Clube Pinheiros, a group that Alison defends, reported that the tests carried out by the athlete detected an injury called “bucket handle”, due to the shape of the affected meniscus. According to the organization, the COB medical team is accompanying the athlete.
“This week, I ended up feeling my knee, but it was necessary to treat it, ‘yeah’ connected with how life works. [Quero] Thanks to everyone who is with me right now, sending messages, good energies, doing their best to comfort me a little in this situation that, as you know, the news is a blow. We’re planning everything right, let’s make everything cute. When I have more news about the treatment, I’ll bring it to you. Thanks to COB that is saving a lot of life. Say I’m fine, let’s go to work, have the surgery, treat it and life goes on. Keep focused. Nothing changes. We have our goals for this year and for next year as well”, said Alison, in a video released to the press by the COB press office.
