Accused of sabotaging Gal Costa’s assignment of rights, Wilma Petrillo fights for recognition of the stable union with the singer

The work produced by Gal Costa over six decades may be inaccessible to fans. In addition to a legal imbroglio involving the artist’s inheritance, who died in November 2022, victim of a heart attack, the widow of Gal Wilma Petrillo, is accused by cultural producers and former employees of sabotaging the assignment of rights to the artist, who also are among the goods left by her.

Only the judgment of the inventory will decide the sharing of assets and the administrator of the work. According to Piauí magazine, Petrillo filed a lawsuit, which runs in secrecy of Justice, asking for the recognition of a stable union of the artist, with whom he lived for 24 years.

Wilma also requested the position of executor of the estate and asked for custody of Gabriel Costa Penna Burgos, son adopted by Gal in 2007, currently 18 years old. If the requests are met, Petrillo will have 50% of Gal’s assets and will manage the work together with Gabriel.

Folha de S. Paulo claims that the Public Defender’s Office had to take on the case because of an incompatibility of interests between the son and the widow. The entity, however, did not detail the progress of the action, respecting judicial secrecy.

Lawyer Felipe Russomanno, heard by Folha as an expert, said that the process should take time and could have different outcomes. “When the executor is appointed, he will assign or not the rights until the conclusion of the judgment”he says.

The lawyer draws attention to an episode in the edition of Fantástico, on TV Globo, which aired shortly after Gal’s death. During the interview, the viewer is informed by the reporter that Gabriel treats Petrillo as his godmother. “Very likely Petrillo will have the recognition of the stable union, but it is strange that Gal’s son treats Wilma as a godmother. He doesn’t say stepmother, not even mother”says Russomanno.
