Women publish letter to Lula asking STF for female name

A group of 60 female jurists and academics released, this Friday (14th), a manifesto in favor of appointing a woman to the post of Minister Rosa Weber, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF). The current president of the Court will retire in October, which will allow President Lula (PT) to make a new nomination later this year. Recently, the petista signed the name of his lawyer, Cristiano Zanin, in the vacancy left by Ricardo Lewandowski.
Part of the signatories of the manifest are part of the group called Prerogativas, which is a supporter of the Lula government and an emphatic opponent of the Lava Jato operation. Currently, the Board of Ministers of the Supreme has nine men and two women. The manifesto calls for this minimum number of women to be maintained on the Court.
“With the departure of Minister Rosa Weber, we will have the possibility of, at least, maintaining this training, in the event of the appointment of another woman. The mainstream media, however, announces, with some insistence, male names for the post, which causes us extreme discomfort, since it means a setback, in a context in which women have so little influence in spaces of power”, says the text. .
Men and women emerge as names considered for Rosa Weber’s vacancy
As shown by People’s Gazette, the name of the Minister of Justice, Flavio Dino, has been gaining strength behind the scenes at the Esplanada dos Ministérios and is one of the candidates to take over from Minister Rosa Weber. However, other names run around and have their nomination supported by different groups. Some of the STF ministers, for example, support Dino, while others prefer colleagues from the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), such as Luís Felipe Salomão and Benedito Gonçalves. The current president of the Federal Court of Auditors (TCU), Bruno Dantas, is also seen inside the Planalto Palace as one of the names that should emerge as a favorite.
On the other hand, the Prerogativas group has several other preferred names, such as professors Pedro Serrano and Lenio Streck, lawyers Dora Cavalcanti, Flávia Rahal and Carol Proner, in addition to judge Simone Schreiber.
