A video recorded at the 1st Health Promotion Mobilization Meeting in Brazil (Em Prosa Brasil), organized by the Ministry of Health, shows a woman dancing a choreography with sexual connotations. While one of the four members on stage sings the song “Batcu” by Aretuza Lovi and Valeska Popozuda, the woman dances swaying, going down to the floor, lifting the entire back of her dress. The three-day event began last Wednesday (4) and is scheduled to end this Friday (6).

On YouTube, the event broadcast videos do not contain the presentation. The meeting is being held by the Primary Health Care Secretariat and “aims to promote the implementation and management of the National Health Promotion Policy through the sharing of ideas and experiences”, according to the event’s ceremonial speech.

The Ministry of Health expressed its opinion in a statement, informing that seven artistic groups were invited to perform during breaks in the event and that one of the performances was surprising due to its inappropriate choreography. The body also states that it was an isolated episode that does not reflect the Secretariat’s policy and that “it will adopt measures to ensure that it does not happen again”.

Among the participants in the event was Mother Nilce Naira who started the event by giving a blessing and saying a prayer to the orixás asking for strength so that they can “occupy such an important space with equal rights”. In August, the CNS recommended that Umbanda terreiros be integrated into the SUS.

Then, Andrey Lemos, Director of the Department of Health Promotion, who organized the event, also asked Exu, the orixá of communication, “to allow the words and everything that is said here today to boost health mobilization in our country”.
