While President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva does not launch a new package of public investments in infrastructure, marks of past PT administrations are re-presented by the government, with emphasis on the Minha Casa Minha Vida housing program.

During a public hearing in the Senate, the Minister of Cities, Jader Filho (MDB), thanked Congress for providing funds for his portfolio’s programs. “We’re pushing forward the gradual development in these first four months,” he summarized. He said that he will prioritize the resumption of paralyzed works since the PT governments and appeal for partnerships with city halls and state governments.

Citing actions of the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC), he listed resumption of works in housing and road projects. The minister spoke at a joint session of the regional development (CDR) and infrastructure (CI) commissions this Tuesday morning (16).

Minister Jader Filho also defended the government’s direct investment in state-owned companies, making the Sanitation Framework more flexible. “The public sector goes where the private sector doesn’t go, because it doesn’t find a return”, he said. For him, it is possible to have a synergy between private concession contracts and public works. The decree that distorts the Sanitation Framework was overturned in the Chamber, but will still be debated in the Senate.
