Using condoms, hydration and applying sunscreen are essential

Manaus (AM) – The arrival of Carnival implies reinforcing health care to prevent illnesses and infections during the carnival festivities in street blocks and bands and samba school parades. Close to the holiday, the Amazonas Health Surveillance Foundation – Dr. Rosemary Costa Pinto (FVS-RCP) issues alerts, such as the use of condoms, hydration and application of sunscreen.

The use of condoms during sexual intercourse is essential to prevent diseases and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), such as HIV/Aids, Human Papillomavirus (HPV), gonorrhea, acquired syphilis and hepatitis B and C.

Thinking about well-being during the festivities, hydration must be carried out in advance and consistently to prevent dehydration. Other recommendations include wearing light fabric clothing, applying sunscreen and consuming foods that contain water, such as oranges, watermelon, melon, strawberries and pineapple, in addition to natural sugar (fructose) replenishing energy and preventing hypoglycemia.

Furthermore, it is important to check that your vaccination card is up to date to protect against vaccine-preventable diseases, such as Covid-19 and influenza. Tatyana Amorim, CEO of FVS-RCP, highlights the importance of everyone’s participation in individual prevention measures that impact public health.

“At Carnival, we need to remember our responsibility, whether as citizens or health professionals, seeking health through preventive measures. During Carnival revelry, we must maintain collective responsibility. So, stay hydrated, use condoms, get vaccinated and eat well. Together, we can celebrate safely and protect ourselves from illness and infection,”

highlights Tatyana.
