With new areas, Conselhão becomes less in tune with Lula – 05/07/2023 – Panel

Approximately half of the new Council for Sustainable Economic and Social Development has a declared affinity with PT ideas or shows sympathy for the Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) government.

According to a survey by the Panel, of the 246 names from civil society that Lula chose and invited to the council, installed last Thursday (4), 117 are clearly in favor of the current government. Among the allies, legal professionals and, mainly, trade unionists (28 out of 117) have a lot of representation.

In relation to the composition of the so-called original Conselhão, from 2003, the PT seems to have given more openness to technicians and critics. At the time, survey of Sheet showed that 57% of the body had an affinity with Lula, a number that reached 62% with the inclusion of the ten ministers who had a seat.

In 2003, the council had 84 names, 48 ​​of them with close relations, to a greater or lesser extent, with the federal government.

Twenty years later, the council began to contemplate new areas or themes practically unexplored at the time, such as social networks and applications (Google, iFood, Meta), environmentalism, indigenous movements and the fight against prejudice against the black population and LGBTQIA+.

In relation to 2003, six directors were called in again: Antonio Neto (president of the CSB union central and PDT-SP), Robson Braga de Andrade (president of CNI), Abilio Diniz (member of the board of directors of the Carrefour Group), Joseph Couri (President of the Micro and Small Industry Union of SP), Márcio Lopes de Freitas (President of the Organization of Brazilian Cooperatives) and Sueli Carneiro (philosopher, writer and anti-racism activist).

José Henrique Cutrale also represents continuity in the Conselhão, as he occupies the place that was taken by his father, José Luis Cutrale, from the group that bears the family’s surname.

Outstanding representatives of the new profiles are Felipe Neto and Nath Finance, digital influencers, Conrado Leister, Fábio Coelho, Fabrício Bloisi and Silvia Penna, directors of Meta, Google, iFood and Uber, Viviane Sedola, founder of the Dr. Cannabis, Adriana Barbosa, founder of Feira Preta, Bela Gil, culinary specialist and activist, Davi Kopenawa, Yanomami writer and leader, among others.

The variety of the Conselhão even includes supporters of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in the 2022 elections, as shown by the Panel. The most significant amount came from physician Cláudio Lottenberg, president of the Deliberative Council of Albert Einstein Hospital and Conib (Israeli Confederation of Brazil), who contributed R$ 20 thousand.

In addition to him, they also helped in the campaign of former president João Martins da Silva Junior, cattle rancher and former president of the National Agriculture Confederation (CNA), with R$ 1,022; Sérgio Bortolozzo, president of the Brazilian Rural Society and Frank Rogieri Souza de Almeida, president of the National Forum of Forestry-Based Activities, both with R$ 1,000 each.

Most of the names not aligned with the PT government cannot be seen as opponents, but technical representatives of areas that the current management considers relevant. In most cases, they do not publicly express political-electoral positions.

Board members voluntarily participate in discussions. The Council also has an advisory nature, that is, the meetings generate recommendations to the president, who may or may not accept them.
